16,000-Year-Old Cemetery Discovered in Turkey

This news story about a 16,000-year-old ancient cemetery comes from just one tweet from the Turkish Department of Excavations and Research, which shows new excavations in Turkey, which build on previous work done in the past decade.

The site in question, located in central Anatolia is called Pinarbasi Hoyuk, situated close to the ancient site of Catalhoyuk.

Underneath an 11,000-year-old Neolithic settlement, is an incredible 16,000-year-old site, with various finds, including a well-preserved cemetery, complete with bones and burial goods.

This makes the site 4,500 years older than the enigmatic site of Göbekli Tepe and it could help us understand the origins of the ancient people of Anatolia.
