Een compilatie van zeer bijzondere beelden van Rotterdam na het verwoestende bombardement door de Duitsers op 14 mei 1940 in kleur!
A compilation of extremely interesting and shocking images of the Dutch city of Rotterdam after the German bombardement on 14 May 1940 in color!
Almost the entire old city of Rotterdam was destroyed by the boms and especially the subsequent raging fires. Between 800 and 1000 citizens died and 80,000 became homeless.
The bombardement was intented to put pressure on the Dutch government to capitulate.
During and after the war Rotterdam was completely rebuilt with modern buildings. The city council is still being blamed for taking such drastic modernisation decisions. A number of beautiful old buildings, like the old theater (Schouwburg) were only moderately damaged but were pulled down together with all the other homes and businesses.
