New Discoveries Next to the Great Pyramid of Giza

In a video I published on February 7th this year, I showed how a new archaeological mission was underway in the Western Cemetery of the Giza Plateau, directly west of the Great Pyramid, and north of the Pyramid of Khafre.

As I mentioned and showed in this video, the team had conducted geophysical surveys on this square patch of land in 2017, but what I didn’t know was that a second set of surveys took place between 2021 and 2023.

This week, the Japanese-Egyptian team has released a new research article documenting their survey results, and the ground-penetrating radar data shows a 15 metre x 10 metre L-shaped archaeological structure at depth.

Furthermore, the team are currently excavating the same area of land, and according to the Instagram page of Dr. Sakuji Yoshimura, new discoveries have been made, including a tomb of an Old Kingdom aristocrat and a wooden coffin.
