Fact or Fiction | The 4.000-Year-Old Floating Pyramid

"Surrounded by a mysterious trench, only one Egyptian pyramid was ever constructed to look like it floats on water; experts decode the ancient secrets of the pyramid that are locked inside its hidden tunnels."

That was the blurb for Season 8 Episode 8 of the Science Channel’s Unearthed, which first aired in January 2021, an episode called 'Egypt’s Floating Pyramid', that being the Pyramid of Senusret II.

It’s the same pyramid I featured in my last video, located at El Lahun, in the Faiyum region of Egypt.

The Unearthed documentary features many credible Egyptologists and archaeologists, it’s presented as real archaeology, factual and accurate, and the whole concept of a floating pyramid illusion is something I had never heard of before.

Of course I wanted to investigate further, and I’m glad I did.

And to clarify, of course the show was not literally implying a floating pyramid, but a pyramid complex that was completely submerged with Nile floodwaters, by design, by order of Pharaoh Senusret II.

But are the claims fact or fiction? Is there really any evidence that the mighty pharaoh wanted to create the illusion of a floating pyramid?

Watch the video to find out.
