Speaking as a former child, I think it's kind of dangerous to think that there are places "kids can't reach". Definitely go for something that can lock, I think.

There is no shelf a determined child can't reach, and finding candy hidden away will probably just make them think their parents didn't want them having that perfectly innocent candy.
That it was the parent's treat, but not that there is anything about it that would make it for adults, other than ownership.
